They investigate organizational and technological developments particularly in the field of machine-assisted translations and data bank systems for the improvement of efficiency and productivity, making suggestions as to the development of the United Nations Multilingual Terminology Database (UNTERM). They also rely on their extensive language skills to produce terminology that is clear and coherent.
5. A terminologist carries out the research required to index terms specific to a certain area of activity or organization. [He or she] analyses concepts, defines terms, finds their equivalents in another language and selects the most appropriate equivalents. … The research is used to compile glossaries, feed terminology databases and standardize the terminology used in a certain field or organization.
