In 2013, 40.21% of ECHO funds were allocated to Africa, 32.15% to the Middle East and the Mediterranean, 13.75% to Asia and the Pacific, 4.14% to Latin America and the Caribbean, 1.48% to worldwide disasters, 2% to civil protection and 6.28% to worldwide assistance and support. By sector, most funding went to food assistance (30%), shelter (19%), health and medical support (13%), water and sanitation (13%) and protection (6%). Humanitarian aid interventions included responses to natural disasters (earthquakes, droughts, floods, epidemics and cyclones/hurricanes/tropical storms), man-made crises (in Colombia, Mali, Myanmar, Syria and its neighbouring countries) and protracted and complex emergencies (Sudan and South Sudan, Palestine, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the Central African Republic).
