N: 1. pyramidal (adj): From pyramid, 1550s (earlier in Latin form piramis, late 14c.), from French pyramide (Old French piramide “obelisk, stela,” 12c.), from Latin pyramides, plural of pyramis “one of the pyramids of Egypt,” from Greek pyramis (plural pyramides) “a pyramid,” apparently an alteration of Egyptian pimar “pyramid.” Financial sense is from 1911. Related: Pyramidal.
muscle (n): late 14c., from Middle French muscle “muscle, sinew” (14c.) and directly from Latin musculus “a muscle,” literally “little mouse,” diminutive of mus “mouse” (seemouse (n.)
2. The paired pyramidalis muscles are small triangular muscles that lie between the anterior surface of the rectus abdominus and posterior surface of the rectus sheath. The precise function of the pyramidalis muscle is unclear, but together the muscles are thought to tense the linea alba. Most of the existing literature regarding pyramidalis muscle focuses only on the statistical observations of its existence. However there is very little description about the innervationof the muscle.
3. pyramidal muscle = musculus pyramidalis; pyramidalis muscle = musculus pyramidalis.
4. musculus pyramidalis: pyramidal muscle: origin, anterior aspecto of pubis, anterior pubic ligament; insertion, linea alba; innervation, last thoracic; action, abducts, rotates thigh laterally.
5. Cultural interrelation: A statement on the Real Madrid’s website read: “After tests carried out on Gareth Bale by the Real Madrid Sanitas medical services, he has been diagnosed with a muscular injury in the right pyramidalis muscle. His progress will be monitored.”
