N: 1. From Greek asthenes (from a- “without” + sthenos “strength”).
2. Asthenia: Weakness. Lack of energy and strength. Loss of strength. Myasthenia refers to a loss of muscle strength, as in myasthenia gravis.
3. Fatigue is one of the most common complaint of medicine and a very usual manner of communication between people. We must avoid to offer any reductionism. Fatigue is often related with physical and psychological symptoms. The inquiry is always difficult. Asthenia is a fatigue without or before effort. The world of the patient is subverted and we have to try to discover the meaning of this strange situation.
