N: When talking about participatory approaches and methods today, we are not talking about a fashion or a vogue. We are discussing field-tested approaches developed on the basis of scientific evidence and practical experience. These approaches have been fine-tuned and further developed in response to changing demands from local people, governments, development workers and researches.

  • The implementation of participatory approaches requires flexibility and process-orientation.
  • Participatory approaches will continue to develop and be modified.
  • Participation puts people in the centre and promotes collaboration for mutually defined objectives.
